What Do You See?

When I had the idea for this photo, it seemed fairly straight forward. It took around 40 or 50 shots, though, before I got one with the mirror in the right position, at the right angle, and with the right expression on Grace's face! The title kind of has a deeper meaning, not only asking literally what Grace sees in the mirror, but also wondering what other people see when they first meet someone with Down syndrome.
The judge in the KSCC competition was the photo editor of the local newspaper, and liked the idea of this photo. It's a fresh way to capture a baby's portrait. He also liked the sharpness and detail, especially in the fabric of the bib and the bottom of the toy.
