Fern Patterns (Mono)

1/500s @ f/4.5 (no flash)
60 mm lens, ISO 100
This photograph was taken in the Wollongong Botanic Gardens on another of my lunchtime excursions.
The judge in the KSCC competition liked the even, symmetrical patterns of the fern fronds, which are repeated like a fractal at three different scales (the tiny fronds, the small leaves off the branches, and the branches off the main stem). He was also very impressed with the sharpness of the image, which I think he mistook for a darkroom print.
19-2-2003. KSCC B Grade Monochrome Prints, "Nature" Competition. Merit.
