Backlight

I took this photo in the Wollongong Botanic Gardens, during my lunch hour. It's not a very interesting picture in colour, but it seems to become a new picture entirely when printed in black and white.

The judge in the KSCC competition really liked this shot. He thought it stood out from the other photos in terms of strong visual impact, while still having lots of interesting detail when viewed up close. The lines lead your eyes to the stop of the stem, where the backlighting seems to make the leaf glow. He also thought it had an excellent range of tones, and was well-printed (he didn't realise it was an inkjet print!).
